Call for Papers: Canadian Jewish Studies / Études juives canadiennes: Special Volume – Art /Jews / Canada

Since William Raphael (1833–1914) became the first Jewish artist to establish a professional practice in Canada, the subject of Judaism and visual culture has had a long and meaningful history that has told the story of Canadian Jews from the nineteenth century to the present.

Call for Papers: Canadian Jewish Studies / Études juives canadiennes: Special Volume on Music and Sound 

Special Editors: Noam Lemish (York) and Miranda Crowdus (Concordia)

The editors of Canadian Jewish Studies / Études juives canadiennes welcome manuscript submissions for a special volume dedicated to the intersections of music and sound with the Canadian Jewish experience, past and present. We are particularly interested in reviewing articles that go beyond the purely biographical or historical approach. Proposals for non-academic articles, including creative outputs such as compositions accompanied by detailed description and analysis with relevance to Canadian Jewish studies are welcome.

Paper proposals for the Association for Canadian Jewish Studies 2025 annual national conference are now due on January 31, 2025. After an anonymous peer-review process, presenters will be contacted by February 24.
